Our Research

Our research is focused on Correlated Oxide thin films and heterostructures. Within this realm, we focus on Electric Field Control of Magnetism; Emergent Phenomena in Oxide Superlattices; Spin Transport in Oxide heterostructures with large spin-orbit coupling. We use synthesis tools to create our model heterostructures. We use state-of-the-art electron microscopy and soft X-ray spectromicroscopy in conjunction with a variety of proximal probes ( piezoforce microscopy, magnetic force microscopy and related techniques) to probe the emergent phenomena in our materials. We complement these tools with magnetotransport, ferroelectric and dielectric measurements on test structures fabricated in the Nanolab. We collaborate extensively with theorists (ab initio, phase field) around the world to complement our experimental studies.
